ROUND 1
THURSDAY, MARCH 26
Richmond

FRIDAY, MARCH 27
Hawthorn

SATURDAY, MARCH 28
Collingwood
Brisbane Lions
St Kilda

SUNDAY, MARCH 29
Melbourne
Port Adelaide
Fremantle

I was a backpacker in Australia in 1990, and at the time did begin to take an interest in Aussie Rules. We managed to see a couple of matches, the first of which was in Perth. This meant that I ended up following West Coast Eagles. Are they any good nowadays? I remember there was a player for someone called Gary Ablett. This caused endless amusement to my mate and I, because at the time, that was the name Liverpool's left back (in the game you know as soccer) We were - and still are - Big Liverpool fans and he was a bit of a cult figure back then. Not paid any attention since though (sorry)

West Coast Eagles are a shadow of thier former selves, no threat to anybody these days. Gary Ablett played for Geelong but has long retired. His son, of teh same name, is a champion player at Geelong these days.

HEY! The greatest team of all won the premiership last year and will do so again this year! You Geelong supporters sure do hold a grudge (I have a couple here at work, one even has the gall to have his 2008 Geelong poster still up! Just because I have my GF winning team poster and a few pages of newspaper coverage up is no excuse). Eventually you will realise that the better team won on the day. It is a good chance we will play again on the last Saturday in September...with the same result.

As to Collingwood, I would expect sanctions to be applied on anyone who DOESN'T bag them. :)

Ron, you do know that there is a special part of hell reserved for Collingwood and Carlton supporters (you have to spend eternity together, which is horrible just in itself), don't you?

You can be saved you know. Yes, EVEN you! Get with the strength (and over 43,000 other members) and join the Mighty Hawks! I fear for your soul, Ron! I WANT you to be saved! All is not, yet, completely lost and redemption is a few clicks away on the computer (along with a painless monthly contribution)! After all, you could be beyond redemtion totally, you could support <shudder - get thee behind me satan> CARLTON!

Peter, Carlton is also (unfortunately) immune to criticism on this thread. My future son-in-law is a Carlton supporter (yes, it will be a mixed marriage) So, since we need another club to make fun of, I vote for:

...and the winner is ...Sydley (stet)

I would rather cut out my tongue than stoop to singing THAT song! Bruce gets on well with Philly because, like all of us, we have some sympathy for poor old Melbourne. 1991 was NOT a good year for them aqnd then, to top it all off, we spurned them in 1996 (thank God...and Don Scott).

We are a family club at Hawthorn and try to be kind to the lesser mortals, EXCEPT the axis of evil - aka Carlton (the Great satan) and Collingwood (the lesser satan).

BTW, some new words for THAT song;

poor old collingwood, disaster
we know how to lose the game
side by side we crash together
but deny it every time

etc etc etc :)

Nice to "see" many old faces here, and really great to "see" a few new faces. Not long to the start, and twenty-four weeks to the finish. Above all, let's have a lot of fun. And don't forget - Geelong Rules! Forget that, and you will make me angry. And you won't like me when I'm angry.

Wow .. what a massive job Norm. Thanks for your offer to run this huge job.

To save some work later, maybe add a point up front to all those who tipped the Swans.

Take off a point NOW for all those who tipped Collingwood.

And give a charity/sympathy point for anyone who tipped Fremantle.

See - you will be 35% sorted after that. :D

Norm, the Palmares dinner on the Saturday night of the exhibition timetable will attract a lot of members, so the official stampboards dinner is likely to be on the Friday night (which was the same setup as the Canberra and Adelaide Stamp Shows).

How far ahead do you have to book for those games at the MCG :?:

The Monday before the match should be fine to get a block of seats. $34.00 per seat. We would need a firm list of total numbers and names prior to the Monday.

There was about 70,000 at tonights game, so there were quite a few empty seats (which surprised me a bit), so it may not even be essential to book, depending on where both teams are on the ladder by mid July. We may be able to just front up about 1:00PM Saturday and go in. That would be a more flexible arrangement for everybody.

I suppose this would also depend on whether we are going to hold a Stampboards meeting at the show, and what time and day that can be slotted in, plus manning our on-line stand.
